The first annual Kent State University Lean Six Sigma Symposium will provide you the opportunity to gain knowledge of best practices from your peers and colleagues. Join fellow practitioners and Kent State Black Belt and Master Black Belt graduates from various industries to explore how they are implementing the tools and techniques of Lean and Six Sigma in their organizations. You will have the opportunity to listen in on sessions and have plenty of time to network.
Keynote Presentation features the executive management team from Allied Machine and Engineering Corporation, Steven Stokey, Executive Vice President and Part Owner and Michael Dreher, Vice President of Manufacturingwill share their experiences and the bottom-line financial impact of a comprehensive Lean Six Sigma initiative.

1. Using Lean Six Sigma Tools in the Current Economic Climate, presented by Robert D. Skillman, Principal Kent State Lean Six Sigma Facilitator.
2. Lean Six Sigma Best Practices Panel Discussion, Join three of our Kent State University Lean Six Sigma graduates for a discussion of the unique practices they utilize in their organizations. You will learn how Lean and Six Sigma tools can be used in both manufacturing and non-manufacturing environments. Hear the benefits and successes realized by practitioners in the field.

3. Saint Vincent’s Lean Six Sigma Journey: Results and Lessons Learned, presented by Steve Osborn, Vice President for Quality Compliance and Improvement at Saint Vincent Health Center, Erie, Pennsylvania. This presentation will show one hospital system's Lean Six Sigma journey during a four-year period. During that time, 38 major Lean Six Sigma projected have been initiated, 18 percent of leadership has received intensive, ten-day Lean Six Sigma training, and approximately 216 associates are now members of Lean Six Sigma teams. In the first three years, 72 percent of the Lean Six Sigma projects have partially or completely met their customer goals, with an internal and community return of $1.4 million.

Meet the Presenters
Tina Benson
With a career spanning more than 25 years in research and quality, Ms. Benson is currently the director of quality and Master Black Belt for TechniGraphics, Inc. in Wooster, Ohio. TechniGraphics creates, captures and converts digital data and implements graphical software for visual information systems. Tina received her MBB and BB certifications from Kent State University and continues to support this program by serving on the Lean/Six Sigma Steering Committee and the Curriculum Subcommittee. She holds a BS in business management and is head of the ISO and Lean Six Sigma efforts for her organization's 11 international facilities.
Michael Dreher
Mike is the vice president of manufacturing at Allied Machine and Engineering Corp. in Dover, Ohio. He joined Allied Machine in 2004 after a 26-year career with The Timken Company. His journey at Timken focused on precision machine design, machine metrology, specification and run-off acceptance of new equipment. He finished his career as the operations manager of the Timken New Philadelphia plant. Mike received his Lean Six Sigma Black Belt training in 2000 and has led the implementation of Lean at both Timken New Philadelphia and Allied Machine. Mike has a passion to develop leaders within the organization through mentoring and servant leadership. Mike currently serves on the Engineering Advisory Board for Kent State University Tuscarawas and the Advanced Manufacturing Team for Ohio Skills Bank.
Dustin Hostetler
Dustin Hostetler is a business consultant and Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt for Lean CPA, LLC, a division of Rea & Associates, Inc., a top 100 accounting and business consulting firm with offices in Ohio. He helps clients implement Lean and Six Sigma concepts in their office and service functions. Industries where he's applied his talents include manufacturing, retail, food service and professional services. In addition, he is a pioneer in helping accounting firms apply Lean concepts to their unique functions like tax return and payroll preparation, pension administration, bookkeeping and governmental auditing. He holds a bachelor's degree in finance from The Ohio State University, graduating magna cum laude. He also received both his Black Belt and Master Black Belt certificates from Kent State University.
Tom Mego
Tom Mego is director of quality, continuous improvement and IT at Keithley Instruments, Inc., in Solon, Ohio. He has been employed at Keithley since 1982 and has held positions in design engineering, project management, product marketing and quality. He is a member of Keithley's Executive Team. Tom holds a B.S. in applied physics and an Executive MBA from Case Western Reserve University. He is a certified Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt through Kent State University. Tom is the deployment leader for Keithley's corporate wide continuous improvement program referred to as PEAK (Performance Excellence Across Keithley).
Steve Osborn
Steve Osborn is vice president for quality compliance and improvement at Saint Vincent Health Center in Erie, PA, where he has worked since 1990. Saint Vincent, the largest hospital system in Erie County, has 425 beds, almost 20,000 annual admissions, 63,000 ER visits, more than 170,000 outpatient visits and 300,000 doctor visits. Steve is responsible for the system-wide Lean Six Sigma program which is in its fifth year of deployment. He is also responsible for the medical staff quality and all external quality agency compliance, including the Joint Commission. In the past, he has been responsible for other components of the quality program including informatics, patient safety, infection control, medical staff administration and medical records. Steve earned a BS in engineering science and an MBA from the Penn State University and a Masters in Health Services Administration from Gannon University. He is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ).
Kent State lead Lean Six Sigma Green and Black Belt training and certification facilitator, Robert Skillman, is a Six Sigma Master Black Belt and a Lean Master Sensei, who has been training and certifying Black Belts in Six Sigma and Lean methods since 1997. He facilitates Kent State’s public offerings of the Lean Six Sigma Certifications, as well as many of the contracted Lean Six Sigma training and certifications.
Mary Ellyn Sedenik
Mary Ellyn was certified as a Master Black Belt through Kent State’s first Master’s class in spring of 2007. She has been with University Hospitals Conneaut Medical Center since 2006 when they first initiated their Lean Six Sigma program. Along with Dave Delost, another Kent State certified Master Black Belt, Mary Ellyn is successfully integrating Lean Six Sigma throughout the University Hospitals’ health system.

Steven Stokey
Steve is an executive vice president and part owner of Allied Machine and Engineering Corp. in Dover, Ohio. He earned his degree in industrial and Systems engineering from The Ohio State University. Steve has served in various roles within the organization with a heavy emphasis in manufacturing engineering, process development and quality management systems. Steve currently serves on the Ohio Executive Council for Project Lead the Way, Engineering Advisory Board for Kent State University Tuscarawas, facilitates the Citizen Advisory Committee for New Philadelphia City Schools and has co-chaired several levy campaigns for New Philadelphia City schools.
