Coaching for Performance: Essential Skills for Today's Manager
Coaching is a conversation that gives employees information, instructions and suggestions relative to their job duties and performance. It also involves guiding behavior toward desired organizational results. Managers who truly want their employees to be high performers must help them develop and obtain the goals they set, which are in alignment with those of the organization. Therefore, the role of the manager/coach is to structure, prepare and implement interactions that foster the greatest involvement in their jobs. Coaching promotes investment and accountability at all levels of the organization.
When individuals are given the opportunity to express their best at work, they feel confident, authentic, creative, purposeful, resilient, strong and significant. A hallmark of today's effective managers and leaders is their ability to go beyond supervision and create adaptive, learning environments that encourage employees to utilize their strengths and make their most significant contributions. Coaching can make effective managers outstanding leaders.
