The awards for Electronic Communication and Interactive Web Sites and Communication were presented to the team, which included Lin Danes, Stefanie Moore and Gina Prodan from UCM; and David Cunningham, Christine Shih and Elizabeth Wyglendowski from Information Services.
The Web redesign team gave the old Kent State Web site a facelift by adding drop-down menus to expand navigation, improving content and design by incorporating Flash technology to support special university efforts, and supporting web accessibility by providing quick access to a text-only generator and offering alternate color schemes for those with poor vision. These are just a few of the improvements made on the Web site that helped the team earn the awards.
Barbara Reilman, a student designer from UCM, had work featured in the Student-Designed Visual and Identity Publications category from IABC. Reilman earned an honorable mention for creating a family of marketing pieces – ads, table tents, T-shirts, banners and posters – to promote the Biloxi, Miss., relief effort, Kent State United for the Gulf Coast. Reilman Wins Vision Award for Midterm Campaign Designs
The votes are in: Barb Reilman, graphic design intern with University Communications and Marketing (UCM), received Honorable Mention in the 2006 International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Vision Awards for her Midterm Awareness Campaign designs.
Reilman's work will be recognized at the IABC luncheon on May 23 in Cleveland.
For the Midterm Campaign, UCM teamed up with First-Year Experience, Research Planning and Institutional Effectiveness (RPIE), Undergraduate Studies, and Enrollment Management and Student Affairs to improve student success at Kent State. The campaign aimed to make students aware of the importance of freshmen midterm grades on overall student success and retention.
Reilman's hip, stylish designs on fliers, ads and posters were complemented by the campaign's messages, which included midterm countdowns, study tips and witty advice.
So it's no coincidence that by late fall, results showed students' midterm performances had improved. The percentage of Kent Campus first-time freshmen with a 2.0 or above GPA at midterm jumped from 65.2 last year to 69 percent.
Congratulations again to Barb Reilman on her IABC Vision Award recognition!
Check out some of Reilman's Midterm Campaign poster designs, and then read more about the campaign in "Midterm Results Are In."
