Reappointment, Promotion, & Tenure Guidelines

Regional Campuses faculty follow the reappointment, promotion, and tenure guidelines of their academic unit (department/school/college), as well as their individual campus.  Each year leading to tenure review, faculty prepare a reappointment file that is evaluated by colleagues on the campus and in the department/school/college, as well as at the college, Regional Campuses, and Provost's levels.  Under normal circumstances, the tenure decision occurs in the faculty member's sixth year.  Promotion is a separate process; some faculty who are standing for tenure also stand for promotion.

Faculty are encouraged to review all guidelines carefully and to meet with their department chairs for guidance in their professional development plans.  The University guidelines for reappointment, promotion, and tenure can be accessed through the Provost's Office (PDF).

Faculty who are beginning to prepare files for review may benefit from the Suggestions for Preparing the Reappointment/Tenure/Promotion File (PDF), prepared by the Dean for Academic and Student Services for a workshop in 2004.  Although these are not official University guidelines, many faculty have found them useful in getting started.
