Grants.gov News Updates:

Grants.gov transitioning to Adobe Acrobat Reader 8.1.1 for proposal submissions

PureEdge Viewer will be phased out over the 2008 calendar year, and will be replaced by Adobe Acrobat Reader 8.1.1 for proposal preparation and submission. Submissions  through Grants.gov require extra preparation, so please contact the Sponsored Programs office (22070) as early as possible when planning to submit a proposal.

GRANTS.GOV is a portal designed to locate and apply for funding from federal agencies. All federal agencies are in the process of transitioning their applications to grants.gov, so please check agency websites for information on specific timelines.

Registration

The University is registered with grants.gov. Individual PI registration in grants.gov is NOT required. However, several agencies require you to register on agency-specific websites for electronic grant applications. NIH, for example, requires that Principal Investigators be registered in the NIH Commons prior to submission via grants.gov. Check to see if you will need to register with your funding agencies.

Software Requirements

  • Grants.gov requires use of a free proprietary software package, PureEdge Viewer, to download application packages. To download the viewer, click here.
  • Once the PureEdge Viewer is downloaded, application packages can be downloaded, viewed, and edited.
  • If you use a Macintosh computer, please click here to see requirements for Macintosh use.

Sponsored Programs Office Procedure

  • As the application package is a free-standing set of documents resident on a computer, Sponsored Programs will add required information and attachments to a ‘master’ copy of the application package. PIs can certainly download and work with an application package, but since information is not transferable between copies, please do not prepare a copy yourself for submission unless you have made arrangements with the Sponsored Programs Office that you will do so.
  • Per University policy, proposals “shall reach the authorizing official in final form at least five days before the relevant agency deadline.” We must have completed proposals five days prior to the submission deadline. If you submit anytime later, there may not be sufficient lead-time to accommodate your request.
