Members

The Kent State University Animal Care and Use Committee is composed of :

  • 1 facility director, Department of Psychology
  • 2 Department of Psychology members
  • 1 facility director, Department of Biological Sciences
  • 2 Department of Biological Sciences or BMS members
  • 1 consulting veterinarian
  • 1 Committee Chair appointed by Institutional Official
  • At least 1 non-affiliated member from the community
  • At least 1 non-scientific member
  • Other members determined by need

IACUC Responsibilities

The Kent State University IACUC is established and operated under two sets of federal regulations: PHS Policy and USDA Animal Welfare Act. The purpose of the IACUC is to ensure the appropriate care and use of animals used in research. This is done by reviewing at least once every six months the institutional program for humane care and use of animals using The Guide as a basis for evaluation; inspecting the animal facilities at least once every six months; and review and approve, require modifications in or withhold approval of protocols using animals in research.
