Fields: political theory, women and politics, women's studies, feminist political theory, women and public policy

Professor Steuernagel teaches courses in political theory, women and politics, and public policy. She has authored and co-authored several books in the field. Her work has also appeared in a number of journals, including Polity, Women and Politics, and Journal of Popular Culture. She has won the KSU Alumni Association and KSU Foundation Distinguished Teaching Award as well as the Student Advisory Council Award for Outstanding Teaching in Arts and Sciences and the Distinguished Honors Faculty Award and has been honored by the Mortarboard Society and the Golden Key National Honor Society. She was twice selected as the KSU nominee for the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education Professor of the Year award and was co-recipient of the first Professional Women of KSU Distinguished Woman Award.
