Michael’s teaching interests include a variety of American political science topics, including political attitudes, political behavior, the presidency, Congress, public policy, pop culture and the mass media. In his research, Michael examines the factors that shape differential voting participation, or the phenomenon of voting in some contests while abstaining from voting in others on the same ballot. To that end, Michael has written numerous conference papers and has authored an American Politics Research article that examines the extent to which elite cues shape down-ballot participation.
