Kent State researchers are exploring new applications in biomedicine, biotechnology, electron beam development, liquid crystal displays, optical communications, polymers and other advanced materials. Often these research discoveries are transformed into patents, which can foster economic development. One of the many areas in which researchers at Kent State are making extraordinary contributions is in understanding cellular behavior, a critical component to advances in treating diseases such as cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Much of the research conducted at Kent State is interdisciplinary and centers on quantitative cellular systems biology. "Kent State's research, educational programs and technology transfer in quantitative cellular systems biology have come together with great success and synergy. We are building research enterprises that serve society based on the collaborative strengths of our faculty. We are committed to making important research advances and to applying our knowledge in ways that will have a direct impact on the quality of life – whether that is fighting disease or developing a highly skilled workforce or teaching young people to appreciate the sciences," said Dr. Rathindra N. Bose, vice president for research and dean of graduate studies. |
