Kent State University offers Kent State students and those from other universities the opportunity to study in historic Florence at its newly-renovated Palazzo dei Cerchi in sunny Italy's center of cuisine, culture, art, fashion and civilization.  Programs are designed for students in many majors.  You will learn about a foreign country through field trips, special activities, and individual travel. Semester program students live in apartments and those in the Intensive Italian-Language Program live with a family.

Programs in Florence, Italy: 

Comprehensive Semester
This program offers a choice between Fall and Spring semesters, and allows students to take courses that satisfy a variety of undergraduate interests and needs, including history, geography, philosophy, politics, art, music, theatre, architecture, and language, all of which allow for an emphasis on Italian and European issues, as well as an array of courses concentrating on various aspects of Italian civilization and culture, including art, music, history, literature, and politics.

Application Deadlines:
Fall Semester: May 1st
Spring Semester: October 1st

Program Dates:
Fall: Depart mid-August, return mid-December
Spring: Depart early January, return early May

Spring 2010 Semester Program Calendar
Arrive in Florence January 9th; Orientation Week January 11 - 15th; classes begin January 18th; Spring Break Week March 29 - April 5th; Classes end May 9th; Final Exam Week May 10 - 14; Return to U.S.A. May 15th

Intensive Italian-Language Program
This program is offered during the summer session, and enables students to complete 6 or 8 semester hours of Italian language, complete with an Italian family home-stay, which provides a total-immersion experience. Kent State students can satisfy two semesters of foreign language requirement with this program. 

Program Dates for Summer 2010: Late May to Late June

Application Deadline: March 1st

Special Kent State University Programs: Architecture, Fashion Design and Merchandising, and Interior Design
Students interested in participating in the Florence Semester and in taking one or two classes in those areas should apply for admission to the Florence Semester. Applicants should indicate on their application the area of specialized interest. Approval for enrollment in specialized program courses will be based on student qualifications for the course involved, as determined by the respective program. 

Students who wish to study Architecture, Interior Design or Fashion must apply to those program.
