The following is Kent State University President Lester A. Lefton’s statement regarding the death of Professor Gertrude "Trudy" Steuernagel.




Words are never sufficient at a time like this but I wish to express the university’s deepest sympathy to Dr. Steuernagel's family.

Dr. Steuernagel left an indelible mark on our community during 33 years as a faculty member in our department of political science. She was an outstanding scholar and administrator, and was recognized widely as a superb teacher who touched the lives of countless numbers of Kent State students. In addition, her devotion as a mother was remarkable and inspirational to all who knew her.

She will be greatly missed as a special member of our community.  I know I speak for the entire university community in extending our deepest sympathy to her family and friends, and in expressing the certainty that she will not be forgotten.
