Kent State University’s Men’s and Women’s Choruses Perform Spring Concert (03/31/2009)

The Men's and Women's Choruses’ spring concert will be held in the sanctuary of the United Church of Christ of Kent, 1400 East Main Street, at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 17.  Admission is free, but a free-will offering will be accepted to support the touring activities of both choruses.  Parking is free.

The program will feature a wide spectrum of music from both choruses, including selections by Gabriel Faure, Felix Mendelssohn, Randall Thompson, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Franz Biebl, Pablo Casals, Eric Whitacre and more.  The Men's Chorus barbershop quartet "Almost Famous" will perform and the two choruses will combine forces on a couple of numbers.

The KSU Men's and Women's Choruses are two of the major choral ensembles in the Hugh A. Glauser School of Music at Kent State University and include students from all areas of the campus.  They perform throughout the year both on campus and on tour around the state.  Touring is a major mission of both groups for the purpose of conducting outreach on behalf of the university and the School of Music.  The Men's Chorus has travelled nationally to Florida and New York and performed at the 2007 Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) Professional Conference, while the Women's Chorus has sung with the Canton Symphony Orchestra.

This spring, both choruses will appear in the Helen D. Schubert Concert Series at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in downtown Cleveland and collaborate with other KSU choral ensembles and the KSU Orchestra to perform Morten Lauriden's Lux aeterna.
