Holocaust Expert to Speak about Jewish Refugees from Nazi Europe at Kent State (3/18/09)
Kent State’s Jewish Studies Program will host Holocaust educator and author Deborah Dwork on Tuesday, March 31, at 7:30 p.m. in the Kent Student Center Kiva. The presentation is free and open to the public.
Dwork is the Rose Professor of Holocaust History and founding director of the Strassler Family Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Clark University, Worcester, Mass. Her presentation, “Fleeing for Their Lives: Jewish Refugees from Nazi Europe During World War II,” will provide insight into her research and most recent findings on the Holocaust.
Dwork has authored and co-authored numerous books on the Holocaust including Children With A Star, Holocaust: A History, Auschwitz and her most recent The Terezin Album of Marianka Zadikow. Dwork has been a Guggenheim fellow, a fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and a fellow of the American Council of Learned Societies.
“We are privileged to have such a noted scholar and Holocaust educator speak on our campus,” says Richard Steigmann-Gall, director of the Jewish Studies Program and associate professor of history at Kent State. “Not only is it important to note the challenges that faced our Jewish ancestors during the World War II, we can continue to learn from the mistakes of our fellow man during the Holocaust. Dwork’s talk should give us all something to think about, no matter what our race or religion. ”
