Manage Your Password
Logging in for the first time
To access university systems, you will be required to set up a unique user profile, which requires a password set up. Before you start, you need to know two things:
- User Name - This is the first part of your email address (ex. "janedoe@kent.edu" is "janedoe") If you do not know your User Name, please look at the Kent State Online Phone Directory
- Password - New Students are given a temporary password when their account is setup. This password consists of information about the student that only the student would know about themselves. The format of the password is:
AMMMYYSSSS
Where:
- A = the first letter of your middle name (if you do not have a middle name use the letter 'x')
- MMM = the first three letters of your birth month
- YY = the last two numbers of your birth year
- SSSS = the last four numbers of your Social Security Number
So, for "John A Doe" (birth date March, 1979 and Social Security Number 123-45-6789), the password would be: amar796789. (If John had no middle name, the password would be xmar796789)
International students without a Social Security number may omit the Social Security numbers from their default password. The format for an international student is: AMMMYY.
