Emergency Messages on Your Mobile Phone

Flash ALERTS is Kent State’s official emergency text notification system to alert students, faculty and staff of critical information no matter what time it is or where they are in the world. The new Flash ALERTS will expand the university's ability to send critical news and information to the university community during campus emergencies.

Why haven't I received my confirmation code (resend)?
If you attempted to confirm your mobile number but never received your confirmation code via text message, please check that;

  • the mobile number you entered is correct
  • your handset is turned on
  • you are in an area with adequate cellular signal
  • the mobile number you are trying to confirm is the associated with the handset you have presently

If you still do not receive the confirmation code via text message, click on the "Resend to XXX-XXX-XXXX" button to have it resent to your mobile phone.

Do I need to keep my 4 digit code?
No, if you need the code go back and log into your account. Next to Mobile Number click Edit. Re-enter your mobile number and click Next. You will receive a text message on your phone. Click to view the message 672-83. A 4 digit number will be displayed this is the number you should enter in order to activate Flash ALERTS. Please add 672-83 as a contact number and the name as FlashAlerts.

How do I receive Rave channel alerts?
You can receive all alerts from the channels you belong to, including event info, via mobile text message* and/or your preferred email address.

  1. Click on the "Home" tab in the top-navigation
  2. Click on the "My Channels" link in the sub-navigation
  3. Within the "My Channels" module is a list of channels you belong to. Next to each channel are buttons you can select to turn "ON" or "OFF" that method of alert.
    • If you would like to receive alerts from a channel via text message*, click on the button associated with that channel under the "Alert me by: Text" column. The button should now be highlighted and read "ON."

If you would like to receive alerts from a channel via email, click on the button associated with that channel under the "Alert me by: Email" column. The button should now be highlighted and read "ON."

How do I stop alerts from a Rave Channel?

  1. Click on the "Home" tab in the top-navigation
  2. Click on the "My Channels" link in the sub-navigation
  3. Within the "My Channels" module is a list of Rave channels you belong to. Next to each Rave channel are buttons you can select to turn "ON" or "OFF" that method of alert.
    • If you would like to stop receiving alerts from a Rave channel via text, click on the button associated with that channel under the "Alert me by: Text" column. The button should now be highlighted and read "OFF."
    • If you would like to stop receiving alerts from a Rave channel via email, click on the button associated with that channel under the "Alert me by: Email" column. The button should now be highlighted and read "OFF."

Can I post a message to channel from my phone?
All channels are set up differently. If you're a channel administrator, or a contributor to a channel, as determined by the channel administrator, you can send text alerts to your whole channel. Here's how:

  1. Send a alert to shortcode: 67283 (MRAVE)
  2. The body of the alert includes the channel keyword followed by your alert.

e.g. - "RugbyClub Hi everyone!"

Only channel administrators and authorized contributors can send messages to a channel.

How do I turn off text alerts from a Rave channel from my mobile phone?

  1. Send text message to shortcode: 67283 (MRAVE)
  2. In the body of the alert, include the "channel keyword" followed by "OFF"

e.g. - RugbyClub OFF

How do I change my mobile number?

  1. Click on the "My Account" tab in the top-navigation
  2. Click on the "Mobile Number" link in the sub-navigation
  3. Enter the new mobile number you want to use in the fields provided, click "Next"
  4. You will shortly receive a text message, with a 4-digit confirmation code, to the phone connected with new mobile number you entered. Enter the 4-digit confirmation code in field provided, click "Finish"
  5. If you successfully changed your mobile number, you should receive a message reading, "Your new mobile number is XXX-XXX-XXXX."

How do I change my username?

  1. Click on the "My Account" tab in the top-navigation
  2. Click on the "Rave Account" link in the sub-navigation
  3. Enter the new username you want to use in the field provided, click "Save"

How do I change my password?

  1. Click on the "My Account" tab in the top-navigation
  2. Click on the "Rave Account" link in the sub-navigation
  3. Enter the new password you want to use in the fields provided, click "Save"

How do I change my preferred email address?

  1. Click on the "My Account" tab in the top-navigation
  2. Click on the "General Info" link in the sub-navigation
  3. Enter the new preferred email address you want to use in the field provided, click "Save"

How do I request a channel to be created?

  1. Click on the "Home" tab in the top-navigation
  2. Click on the "Create a Channel" link in the sub-navigation
  3. Fill in your group's required information in the fields provided, click "Next"
  4. Confirm your group's information then, click the "Next" button to request your group creation
