Institute for CyberInformation Charter

Purpose

 

The Institute for Cyberinformation (ICI)  is a multi-disciplinary center for educators, students, researchers and the wider community, designed to:

  • Help advance research and education in information, media and communications;
  • Explore contemporary issues and foster critical thinking about digital media and its impact on society.

 

Goals

 

In order to achieve its purpose, the Institute for Cyberinformation, through the CCI faculty, students and ICI  Associate Members and Visiting Scholars, will engage in a wide variety of activities, including, but not limited to:

  • Fostering sponsored research, consultation and public service among CCI faculty, visiting faculty and scholars, in order increase understanding of the impact of digital media on contemporary society;
  • Encouraging and facilitating the development of CCI curricular offerings which utilize new media;
  • Providing opportunities for participation in research projects by graduate students;
  • Providing opportunities for participation in research projects by undergraduates;
  • Involving students and faculty in the programs and governance of the Institute;
  • Supporting and expanding resource holdings related to digital information;
  • Maintaining and fostering ties with other institutions of higher learning and research that have complimentary research and instructional agendas;
  • Stimulating communication among and with scholars at Kent State and with scholars at other institutions interested in digital information;
  • Disseminating knowledge about digital information through Institute publications and by fostering university and community programs focusing on Institute activities.
