SKATING PROGRAMS BROCHURE

 

 

The Kent State University Ice Arena Skating Programs provide a friendly family atmosphere in which to learn ice skating and prepare skaters of all ages for advancement in both figure skating and hockey.  We strive for each skater to build confidence and a lifetime love of skating.

 

General Information                     LTS 1

  • Recommended to dress in layers
  • Snow suits and heavy winter clothes are discouraged (they limit movement)
  • Mittens or gloves are a MUST!
  • May use your own skates...NO double runners!
  • Skates can be rented for $1.00 per lesson

Participants will receive...

  • FUN CLUB card for 8 discounted admissions to public sessions
  • A parking permit for Thursday only classes (one per family)
  • Invitation to perform in the annual Kent State Ice Arena Holiday Exhibition

Learn to Skate

 

The U.S. Figure Skating class structure begins with skills such as forward and backward skating, stops and turns.  Each level builds on skills learned in the previous level. 

TOTS

  • Designed for the younger skater
  • Classes meet once a week for one half hour
  • Children must be 4 years-old before or during the scheduled session
  • An additional 30 minute practice is available after the TOT lesson (extra cost)

BASIC SKILLS                             LTS 2

  • Children age 5 and older may enroll
  • Classes consist of 30 minutes of group instruction and 30 minutes of practice time
  • Basic 1 is for  beginners ages 5 and 6
  • Basic 1/2 is for beginners ages 7 and older
  • Participants will be placed according to age and ability

ADULTS

  • Participants may be 17 years or older
  • Classes meet once a week for 30 minutes of instruction
  • Participants will be placed with other skaters of similar ability

 

 




Advanced Programs

 

The Advanced programs are designed for skaters who are Basic Skills Level 5/6 and higher.  The purpose of these programs is to introduce skaters to a variety of skating disciplines.

 

SYNCHRONIZED SKATING CLASS

  • Team skating
  • Perform circles, lines, and other formations using variety of holds and steps
  • Builds comaraderie among skaters while improving skills
  • Option of performing the programs learned in exhibitions and competition

THEATRE ON ICE

  • Uses all aspects of figure skating
  • Incorporates a theme, emotion or story, enhanced by music
  • Participants will work on artistry and movement with the music
  • Participants will enhance their individual skill and also give them the opportunity to work as a group
