Preventing Harassment on Campus

Customized to the Kent State environment, this course provides employees with the information they need to prevent and report sexual harassment and other forms of workplace harassment. Interactive scenarios display "gray area" situations involving all types of unlawful harassment, including race, national origin and religion.

This course has four versions (faculty, faculty with supervisory duties, supervisor, and non-supervisor). When you access this course you will see the version that is most appropriate for your role.

 

 

Preventing Workplace Violence

This course clarifies the nature and scope of workplace violence and identifies some best practices for identification and prevention. Participants will gain an understanding of early warning signs, find out how to respond effectively in a violent situation and learn about university resources that are available. The course features some thought-provoking vignettes and video clips from subject matter experts.  All employees whether they have supervisory roles or not, are encouraged to take the course. 

 

 

Sexual Harassment: Understanding and Behavioral Guidelines (under construction)

difficult choice that requires the employee to balance competing interests where the right thing to do is not clear.

Instructor Led Courses

Dealing with Difficult Behaviors

This 3-hour workshop focuses on identifying and addressing the seven most common difficult behaviors.  Participants will get an opportunity to explore ways to effectively deal with these behaviors and examine how they are personally impacted by the behaviors.  After completing this course you will be able to:

  • Understand the importance feelings play in dealing with difficult encounters.

  • Identify trigger words and reframe reactions.

  • Identify and address the seven most common difficult behaviors.

  • Demonstrate how to give constructive feedback.

The course is designed for classified and unclassified employees who are individual contributors (those with no supervisory responsibilities), but all university employees are welcome. 

 

Principles of Conflict Management
This half-day workshop is designed to give participants the insight and tools needed to effectively manage conflict in the workplace.  Through the use of a self-assessment tool, participants will determine their conflict management style, learn how to distinguish between the different styles of conflict and gain practical experience in applying conflict styles and communication skills in the workplace.
