The Honors Concept

Are you looking for intellectual challenge?  Are you looking for the chance to follow your curiosity wherever it may lead?  Are you looking for people from whom you can learn, people with whom you can have fun, some with an offbeat sense of humor?  Are you looking for stimulating teachers who will draw your best from you?  This is what the Honors College is all about.  We are a home for students who enjoy the power of their own minds.  If you like hard work, good friendships, and unconventional thinking, join the Honors College on this unique intellectual journey!

Our Students

Honors College membership at Kent State University is open to all majors and hosts approximately 1,350 students at the Kent Campus and five Regional Campuses.  Our students are encouraged to be engaged members of the university community through membership and leadership roles in the Honors College and other campus organizations.

Honors College Classes

Honors College classes emphasize the intellectual value in the pursuit of knowledge.  Every effort is made to show students the connections between disciplines.  Honors College classes are small, taught by carefully chosen faculty, and emphasize students’ active involvement in their learning.  Plentiful opportunities for individual study, including the Senior Honors Thesis/Project give students exciting experiences in following their intellectual curiosity.

Honors College Student Support

Academic advising in the Honors College is closely attentive.  It aims to empower students to make informed choices about their education.  An Honors College residence complex, state-of-the-art facilities, experiences including study abroad/away opportunities and cultural programming all support bright and motivated students seeking an intellectual home within the larger university.
