Study Away Stipend/Scholarship Information

Students must successfully complete at least one Honors College experience before they are eligible to receive Honors College stipends or scholarships. Stipends will be applied to tuition for the semester following the study away experience.  All awards require successful completion of coursework and the Honors College Study Away Contract.

 

Domestic StipendsGreece

 

Columbus Program in Intergovernmental Issues (CPII), up to $300

 

National Student Exchange (NSE), up to $500

 

New York City Semester in Fashion, up to $500

 

Washington Program in National Issues (WPNI), up to $500

 

International Stipends and Scholarships

 

Stipends

 

Accredited One-Semester International Programs, up to $500

Students who successfully complete one-semester accredited programs (e.g., Leicester, Ulster, Florence, Bordeaux, Geneva) are eligible for up to a $500 stipend.

 

Accredited Summer International Programs, up to $250

Students who successfully complete accredited summer (4-5 weeks) programs (e.g., Florence, Mexico, Dresden) are eligible for up to a $250 stipend.

  

Scholarships

 

In addition to allowing students to use their Honors College scholarships, students are encouraged to apply for the competitive awards listed below.

 

 

LondonThe Bengier Study Abroad Honors Scholarships, The Bengier Study Abroad Honors Scholarships were established through a gift from Honors alums Gary and Cynthia Scarmuzzi Bengier. The scholarships provide $1500 to Honors students participating in any semester or academic year study abroad program sponsored by Kent State University, for example, Leicester, Ulster, Geneva, and Florence. The scholarships will be awarded in July and thus can be applied to program fees. Application materials must be submitted to Deborah Craig, Coordinator of Recruitment and Scholarships, by June 15 for consideration. The recipient will be selected by the end of June, and all applicants will be notified in early July.Application.

 

Helga Kaplan Honors Scholarship for Study Abroad, up to $500

Established by the Honors College Alumni Chapter to honor Helga’s 30 years of service to Kent State University, the scholarship provides up to $500 to an Honors College student participating in the University of Leicester or University of Ulster study programs

Application deadline:  June 15.  Application.

 

Anita Bixenstine Honors Awards for Off-Campus Study, $200

            Established in recognition of the contributions of Anita’s 23 years of service

to the Honors College, this award provides $200 to Honors College students participating in one- to three-week off-campus study programs.  Application deadline:  December 31.  Application.

 

Ohio International Consortium

            Students can use Kent State University scholarships that are awarded by the

            Student Financial Aid Office or the Admissions Office for Kent State University

            or Ohio International Consortium sponsored study abroad programs, provided

            you are enrolled full time.  This does not include room, board, or book

            scholarships, which are specific to the Kent Campus.
