College Applicants are Welcome at the Honors College

The Honors College curriculum is designed to provide enhanced and challenging coursework for undergraduates. Most students enter the program as freshmen; however, you may apply to join after one semester of college coursework with a 3.3 or higher college GPA. College applicants are welcome to apply up to the beginning of their senior year. College Student Application 

The Honors College offers:

  • one of the oldest and largest programs in the country
  • diverse student population (approximately 1350 campus wide)
  • membership to students of all majors
  • small, interactive classes taught by outstanding department faculty
  • flexible curriculum including study abroad and off-campus study opportunities
  • renewable merit scholarships, plus special awards for off-campus  study
  • all-Honors residence halls (Johnson and Stopher)
  • professional advising staff
  • priority registration
  • Honors Complex offering the college offices, library/lounge, classrooms, meeting room, gallery space, reception area, and wireless access

The number of Honors courses required (including a possible Senior Honors Thesis/Project) will vary from student to student based on your entry point.  Your Honors advisor will determine the number of Honors course requirements at your first meeting.  Students who have completed 45 hours or more will be required to do a Senior Honors Thesis/Project.

Scholarship eligibility:  If you are applying as a college student with a 3.5 or higher college GPA, you may be eligible to apply for one of our $1000 Honors Academic Achievement Awards (HAAA).  Should you not be eligible for an Honors scholarship at this time, you may apply for a HAAA after completing two semesters in Honors as long as you have a 3.5 or higher GPA at Kent.  HAAA Application
