Commonly Asked Questions
Honors Experiences
Can I complete all my Honors experiences early?
You may complete more than the minimum number of Honors experiences, but it is expected that some Honors work will be done every academic year.
Can I take Honors experiences in my major?
Yes, if specific courses are available, or if you complete a class project agreement for one hour of Individual Honors Work associated with a non-Honors course. Independent study projects as well as the Senior Honors Thesis/Project are usually done in the major.
Do I have to do a Senior Honors Thesis/Project?
Yes, if you are working toward graduation with Honors. If you do not choose this option, you can still graduate as an Honors College Scholar.
Honors Scholarships
What must I do to keep my Honors scholarship at the end of the freshman year?
You need to have a 3.25 cumulative g.p.a. and complete two Honors experiences.
Can I get an Honors scholarship if I don’t currently have one?
You may apply for one of the Honors Academic Achievement Awards (HAAA) that are available at the end of each academic year (3.5 minimum g.p.a. required).
If all or part of my scholarship goes toward room and board (HSIR) and I decide to move off campus, do I lose my scholarship?
Yes, you will lose your HSIR award if you move off campus. (These funds are provided by Residence Services to encourage Honors students to live on campus.)
Honors Registration
When is the earliest time I can register for classes?
Honors students have priority registration. The priority registration time is not listed in the Schedule of Classes but typically begins around three days before the printed registration date for non-Honors seniors. The Honors College will notify students of the priority date.
What if I don’t meet with my Honors advisor prior to the priority date?
You will not be able to register for any Honors experience at any time unless you meet with your Honors advisor.
What if I want to drop an Honors course?
Be sure to inform your Honors advisor so that your schedule will be correct, then follow regular University procedures for dropping a course, including any Individual Honors Work attached to a course. (See the Schedule of Classes for deadlines.)
