Logging into FlashLine

Logging into FlashLine for the first time?
The information below will assist you.

If, after following the instructions below, you still have problems logging into FlashLine, or accessing any of its features, please contact our
Helpdesk for one-on-one support at 330-672-HELP (4357) or via e-mail at helpdesk@kent.edu.

When calling the help desk, please note: Follow the automated prompts when you call the Helpdesk phone number, you WILL reach a real person that is ready to assist you!


Your User Name
Your FlashLine user name consists of all of the characters in your Kent State e-mail address that come before the “@” symbol.

For example, if your Kent State e-mail address were jdoe4@kent.edu, then you user name would be jdoe4.


To Find your User Name
If you are a current Kent State student, faculty or staff member, a quick way to find your user name is to look yourself up in Kent State's Online Phone Directory. Click the link to the left to find your listing. (NOTE: If you have opted to restrict your directory information, you will not find your listing.)


Your Password

Your initial (default) FlashLine password consists of information that only you would know, and should be entered using the following ten-character format:

AMMMYYSSSS (see below).

  • A = The first letter of your middle name (use the letter "x" if you don't have a middle name)

  • MMM = The first three characters of your birth month

  • YY = The last two digits of your birth year

  • SSSS = The last four digits of your Social Security Number

  • NOTE: You should be immediately prompted to choose a new password once you’ve logged in using the above formula.

  • If you forget your FlashLine password, please call our Helpdesk at 330-672-HELP (4357) for assistance.

  • After 120 days of "lack of use" (not logging into) FlashLine, your password is inactivated for security purposes. To reactivate your account, please call our Helpdesk at 330-672-HELP (4357).


NOTE: If you have logged into FlashLine before, but are getting an error message that says "account disabled due to lack of use" -- your account has been deactivated. To reactivate your account, please call our Helpdeskat 330-672-HELP (4357).

After 120 days of not utilizing (logging into) FlashLine, your account password is reset and your account is deactivated for security purposes.

If you regularly use an alternate e-mail reader such as Outlook OR Eudora, or if you currently forward your kent.edu e-mail messages to another e-mail address (such as Yahoo! or Hotmail) -- please be sure to periodically log into FlashLine to keep your account active.
