Message from the Graduate Coordinator
What an exciting time we live in! With just a click of a mouse you were able to open a browser window and explore the possibilities and opportunities associated with graduate study. Or perhaps you opened this window using your Blackberry, I-Phone, or other device. Regardless, information and communication has never been as available or abundant as in today’s society.
It is also an exciting time for the faculty and graduate students at Kent State University who study the potential opportunities and limitations of today’s always-changing communication environment. Whether one is interested in learning more about interpersonal relationships or the ways in which messages are communicated to larger audiences, it is hard to ignore the influence of these newer communication technologies.
At Kent State, we don’t want to ignore these influences. Nearly every graduate class contains some references to communication mediated by technology; some courses, such as Personal and Mediated Communication and Computer Mediated Communication, are solely devoted to this study.
Our program offers traditional MA and PhD degrees with a sound theoretical basis and an emphasis in social science research. Students will acquire a broad knowledge of theory as well as the tools required to apply these theories in up-to-date contexts such as communication technology. We are proud of our graduates who have gone on to careers in academia, as well as corporate and non-profit sectors. Our faculty members are active researchers who bring their experience and current projects into the classroom to collaborate with students.
Once again, thank you for taking the time to visit our website. The faculty and students of the KSU School of Communication Studies welcome your interest and invite you to stop by in person to meet with us and learn more about our program. If you have any questions about graduate study in Communication Studies at Kent State University, please feel free to contact me or any of the other members of the faculty.
Sincerely,
Nichole Egbert
Graduate Coordinator
