Letter to Parents
Welcome to CCIKent! As the Interim Dean, I take great pleasure and pride in the exciting opportunities provided by this unique combination of schools, faculty, staff and students.
Established July 2002, CCIKent delivers high-quality education that responds to the dynamic information marketplace. Whether you intend to be a journalist, public relations specialist, chief information officer, advertising manager, information manager, knowledge manager, Web designer, librarian or graphic designer, our college can provide the knowledge to take you where you want to go.
Four schools – each extremely popular with our students – have joined together to create this special partnership: Communication Studies, Journalism and Mass Communication, Library and Information Science, and Visual Communication Design. The college was recently recognized as having the largest enrollment growth of any college at Kent State with nearly 4,000 students enrolled in our undergraduate and graduate programs. The reason is obvious: individuals with communication and information expertise are constantly in demand.
It is easy to brag about our schools!
The School of Communication Studies, which offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees, is nationally recognized for its scholarship. Its students have received national recognition for their talents as speakers and debaters. The school has been named Ohio's distinguished program in communication for 2003-2004 by the Speech Communication Association of Ohio.
The School of Journalism and Mass Communication, which offers bachelor’s and master’s degrees, is in the nation's Top 20 undergraduate programs by size. Its professionally oriented curriculum and highly competent and experienced faculty have led to national recognition in awards, programs and grants.
The School of Visual Communication Design is the only graphic design program in the state of Ohio to win both the prestigious Academic Challenge and Program Excellence Grants given by the Ohio Board of Regents. VCD offers bachelor’s and master’s degrees and a unique combined bachelor’s/master’s degree. The school has won many design awards and is recognized internationally for the quality of its design education.
The School of Library and Information Science, an exclusively master’s program, is the largest graduate program in the university, the second largest graduate program of its kind in the United States, and the only accredited program in library and information science in Ohio.
