Awards:
The Kent State chapter of the Special Libraries Association won the SLA Merit Award for Innovative Programming. The award is for a symposium that focused on Emerging Digital Technologies and the Special Library as well as Hidden Treasures in the Library. An award certificate will be presented at the Student and Academic Affairs Advisory Council Merit and Scholarship Awards at the SLA Annual Conference on June 15 in Washington, DC.
The symposium was held at the Cleveland Botanical Gardens on Feb. 28. IAKM Professor Tom Froehlich, Ph.D., was one of the presenters. The symposium not only included several presentations but also tours of area museums and libraries, as well as the orchid exhibit at the botanical gardens. SLIS Assistant Professor Athena Salaba, Ph.D., is the group's faculty advisor. Ten students contributed to the project.

Lauren Rich Fine, CCIKent practitioner in residence, was quoted in "NYT's Price Hike Can't Hide the Real Problem: The Paper Lacks a Core Mission" in the May 26 edition of The Washington Post – Online.
VCD Assistant Professor Gretchen Rinnert will present at the DPPI 2009 Conference. The conference is at UTC (Université de Technologie de Compiègne, France) from Oct. 13-16. She will give a short presentation, an Elevator Pitch session; her interactive demo will be presented in the main entrance of the conference building, and a short paper will be published in the proceedings as well.
VCD Associate Professor Sanda Katila will co-chair the session in which she will present her paper "The Adoption of Web Standards into Design and Development: A Report on a Large Survey" this summer at the 13th World Multi-Conference on Systemics, Cybernetics and Informatics: WMSCI 2009. SLIS Assistant Professor David Robins, Ph.D., co-authored an article.

JMC Assistant Professor Teresa Hernandez, along with colleagues from the Cleveland Urban Design Center, presented a joint session at the Western Social Science Association Conference in Albuquerque, N.M., in April. The team is also working on a joint paper on its collaborative project featuring JMC photography undergraduate students and master’s students in the Kent State architecture program.
