CONTINUING STUDENTS

Check MarkBilling Checklist

Read through the checklist to be sure you are aware of what steps you may need to take. Please, remember that all financial aid is based on the number of hours you are registered for. If you reduce your hours, your financial aid will likely be negatively impacted and thus, you may end up owing a balance.

Read over your bill and the enclosed inserts first, or if appropriate, view your e-bill and review the specific term site at the Bursar's Office Website.

1. Has your class schedule changed since the bill was issued?

If no, go to #2.

If yes, login to Flashline, go to WFS, and click on Account Summary/Credit Card Payment to view your current account information. Please be aware that financial aid will not appear on this system until it has released 10 days prior to the start of the semester.

2. Are there charges on the bill that you don't recognize or understand?

If no, go to #3.

If yes, please contact the appropriate office as indicated either on the bill, insert, or here:

Student Financial Aid

Residence Services

Legal Services

Phone directory for Kent State University

3. Have you been awarded aid based on being full time but are now going to be part time?

If no, go to #4.

If your indicated on the FAFSA that you would be a full time student and have decided to go part time, your aid may need to be revised and this could delay your refund. Please send an e-mail to finaid@kent.edu to notify them of your change in enrollment status.

4. Have you been awarded a Direct Subsidized or Unsubsidized student loan?

If no, go to #5.

If yes, have you signed the promissory note for the loan? If you are not sure, follow these steps:

-         log in to Flashline

-         go to WFS

-         click on Financial Aid

-         Select Award Year

-         click on Tracking Information

-         Scroll down and check the Status of your DL Master Promissory Note. If it does not show "received complete", this could delay your refund and you will need to complete the next few steps.

  • To sign your prom note and complete your entrance counseling, you will need your FAFSA pin number.
  • If you do not have it, you will need to request a duplicate here.
  • If you do have it, follow these steps to complete your entrance counseling and sign your prom note: (This process will take 20-30 minutes online and requires you to enter your fafsa pin number at the end as your electronic signature.)
  • After your entrance counseling is complete and prom note is signed, the information will be sent to our student financial aid office. Your loan can then be "originated" and applied to your bursar's account. This process can take approximately two weeks. If you completed this process at a different school within the past ten years, your prom note should still be valid. Please verify this by following the steps above or contacting the Student Financial Aid Office at finaid@kent.edu or 330-672-2972.

5. Have you been awarded a Perkins Loan?

If no, go to #6.

If yes, have you signed the promissory note? If you have used a Perkins loan within the past two years, then you have already signed the prom note. If this is your first Perkins loan, the Perkins Master Promissory Note will be mailed to your permanent address. This information must be completed, signed and returned to Kent.

6. Is there a “PLUS Estimate” on your financial aid award letter?

If no, go to #7.

If there is a “PLUS Estimate” on your financial aid award letter, your parent may apply for the Parent PLUS loan. The pre-application for this loan is on the back of your financial aid award letter or may be printed here. This form MUST be completed and submitted to the student financial aid office no later than one week prior to the due date to use this loan toward your balance due.

7. Do you have external scholarships?

If no, go to #8.

If yes, please be sure that copies of all scholarship award letters have been sent to the bursar's office. By doing this, you may use the scholarships toward your bill before the scholarship source actually sends the funds. But we MUST have the letters.

8. Do you have an employer reimbursement, tuition waiver or other form of assistance with your account?

If no, go to Payment Options. Be sure that your payment is in progress in a timely fashion to ensure you are not assessed a late payment penalty, or cancelled.

If yes, please be sure that the Bursar's office has received this information prior to the due date. You may actually owe funds in addition to whatever portion they pay, so be advised that the soooner this information is submitted the more time you have to pull your portion together.
